Déjà started with frustration— as someone with acne-prone skin, I could never find a routine that worked for me the way I hoped. I was always giving in to the temptation of some new cream that promised to finally give me the clear, worry-free skin that has eluded me since I turned 13. Furthermore, I was concerned about bombarding my skin with chemicals, and what the longterm outcomes of my war on blemishes could be.
I began looking for other ways to clear my skin other than new chemicals. Removing some of the products I was using, cleaning up my diet, and sleeping more made a difference. I also found the "towel method" thanks to a skincare forum— I tested it, and began to wake up with fewer blemishes. Sleeping on a fresh towel every night, however, was pretty uncomfortable and made for a lot of laundry. And I hate doing laundry.
I thought there had to be a better way to sleep on a clean pillowcase every night without doing a crazy amount of laundry. Equipped with the sewing machine I've kept close since elementary school, I created the first version of the Déjà Pillowcase.
